The results are in! We just completed a beta test of our short form employment application with 40 Motel 6 properties across the country. Did you know that Motel 6 has been serving customers for over fifty years and that it “enjoys the highest brand recognition factor of any economy lodging brand”? We learned so much from this test and are grateful to our partner, Motel 6, for working with us to improve the HR Virtuoso® customer and user experience.
Our focus for this project was to assist Motel 6 with their recruiting efforts for housekeeping staff and property maintenance. In order to manage the project effectively, we phased the 40 locations in over a three-month period. We quickly confirmed what we long suspected: with hourly recruiting, it's important to cast your net far and wide, and leverage mobile recruiting.
Customized recruiting flyers were printed with each location's individual QR code/text number to generate community involvement. Many locations used these to advertise at laundromats, local stores, car washes, and community centers. Some locations also drove traffic by posting their openings on Craig's List. The company's Senior Talent Acquisition Manager posted each location's openings on Hospitality Online, which is an industry niche job board.
The results? We drove nearly 4,000 applications through the HR Virtuoso site, and Motel 6 hired 21 individuals out of this pool. As of this writing, an additional 70 candidates are either pending or have interviews scheduled!
The beta test helped Motel 6 management understand the value of moving from a paper system to a state-of-the art online system. Before implementation, there was no data available to measure applicant flow by source. Area Managers and HR staff did not have a clear line of sight to Property Manager involvement in the recruiting process. Now, this information is available and trackable within the system. For the corporate client, new insights and new hires were achieved. For the applicants, the mobile recruiting process became easy and convenient, which drove more engagement.
As in many industries, recruiting is a core competency for Property Managers at Motel 6. HR Virtuoso is pleased that Property Managers and applicants alike found the tool easy to use in staffing Motel 6 properties. As the test results continue to come in, we look forward to utilizing the data to better meet our client’s needs with the aim of expanding the program throughout the over 1,000 locations Motel 6 has in the United States.
