When we’re young we are always told to follow our dreams.
But how many of us grow up and actually do so?
As kids, many of us dreamed of becoming sports stars, rollercoaster testers or even ice-cream tasters. These jobs might sound like something your 6-year-old came up with, but we can assure you they are 100% real and could be yours, provided you’re qualified.
We’ve all heard of crazy jobs that we dream could one day be ours, sitting at our desk working 9-5 wondering what life would be like if as a “Great-Barrier Reef Caretaker” (Yes, that one’s a real job too and could net you around £37,000 per year!).
Why People Leave Jobs
A recent article in The Telegraph revealed that of 1,000 male and female professionals of various age groups from across the UK, around 47% want to change jobs. Over 20% of respondents indicated that they would seek a new career in the 12 months following the survey.
An article by ragan.com found that the most common reasons people leave their jobs vary by gender. Men leave jobs to seek more money, while women tend to leave jobs to reduce the number of hours required at work. Millennials tend to leave jobs to seek more training within their field.
Your dream job is probably a mix of more money, fewer hours, and opportunity for advancement.
Your Hobbies and Strengths
Dream jobs usually involve maximizing the time that you spend on your interest and hobbies. For example, if you're a fitness buff, becoming a personal trainer may be a dream job. Just remember to keep playing to your strengths, since Gallup research indicates that it's easier to build on your strengths than to overcome areas of opportunity.
